Every day countless Australians go out of their way to help their neighbours, often receiving little recognition for the extraordinary contributions they make to their communities.

When we launched the prideofaustralia™ program in 2005, our aim was simple – to unearth and celebrate these unsung heroes; the people who make this country great. However, as hopeful as we were, we couldn’t be sure of success.

Five years on, and prideofaustralia™ has exceeded our wildest expectations. From Perth to Brisbane, Hobart to Darwin, we’ve been overwhelmed by the stories of selfless actions, courage, compassion and heroism. We’ve received more than 14,000 nominations and awarded over 250 sterling silver medals in 35 ceremonies across Australia.

I have been privileged to attend several of the ceremonies. Each time I, like everyone in the room, have been choked with emotion as these incredibly moving stories are told.
I am proud to be part of these wonderful events.

All of us know someone who deserves recognition for their selfless actions. It might be your mum, your cousin, your best friend, neighbour or school teacher. I urge you to take a few minutes and nominate them for this years’ prideofaustralia™.
